There were a couple of eyebrow-raising exhibition results Tuesday night.
Purdue traveled to Storrs to face the Huskies and found themselves down by as many as 18 points in the first half. The deficit never got closer than 10 as UConn rolled to a 76-53 win.
Freshman Colben Landrew led UConn with 15 points in just 17 minutes of action. Nik Khamenia added 8 points and 11 rebounds while helping hold the Boilermakers to just 8% (2-25) from three.
CJ Cox was the lone bright spot for Purdue, putting up 18 points and 7 rebounds. They shot 32% from the field as a team and gave up 38 points in the paint. Purdue has lost a road exhibition game to a high major opponent four years in a row.
While the final score may not reflect it, Stetson had Florida within arm's length for most of the night.
The Gators only led by two at the break, thanks in large part to 14 first-half points from Stetson's Thiago Sucatzky. The Hatters hung around for most of the second half and trailed by just 7 points with 4 minutes to go. From there, Florida reeled off a 10-0 run to close out the game, winning 85-68.
Urban Klavzar and Denzel Aberbeen carried the Gators offensively, scoring 24 and 22 points, respectively. Alex Condon added 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Sucatzky and Alex Doyle each finished with 18 points for the Hatters.
Perhaps the most interesting result of the night came in Chapel Hill.
Wes Miller returned to the Dean Dome to face his alma mater and gave the Tar Heels quite the scare.
Charlotte jumped out to a 15-point first-half lead and went into halftime up by 3. With 16 seconds to go, Charlotte led by 1 and tried to inbound the ball. They couldn't get the ball in and called a timeout, but they had no timeouts remaining. North Carolina shot a technical free throw to tie the game and forced overtime on the next possession.
In overtime, Terrence Brown took over as the 49ers ran out of gas. North Carolina held on to win, 89-82.
Brown finished with 27 points, while Neo Avdalas added 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the Tar Heels. Keyshaun Tillery led Charlotte with 24 points.
