A new high profile multi-team event is in the works for 2027, according to a report from CBS Sports' Matt Norlander.

The "Diamond Cup" is hoping to secure commitments for a pool play event from Arizona, Connecticut, Gonzaga, Kansas, Kentucky, Indiana, Michigan and North Carolina. Duke was originally involved in discussions to play, but opted to sign a multi-year deal with Amazon instead.

The Diamond Cup hopes to feature neutral site games played in cities across the country, with each team playing two games - one preseason exhibition and one standard regular season matchup. Schools would receive over $2 million in the first year, with escalators up to $3.75 million in year three of the deal.

The event would potentially compete with the Player's Era festival, which already features Arizona and Gonzaga, Michigan and Kansas. According to Norlander's report, some of the schools have opt-out clauses, but could theoretically do both because of timing and the NCAA's new scheduling rules.

The event is still in search of a broadcast partner, which is why none of the schools involved have officially signed on. Event coordinators hope to secure both a broadcast partner and all eight schools in the coming weeks, with an announcement planned for as soon as July.
