Next season's high-profile tilt between Duke and Michigan is being relocated to loanDepot Park in Miami, according to a report from CBS Sports' Matt Norlander.
The game, originally scheduled to be played at Madison Square Garden, is moving to the home of Major League Baseball's Miami Marlins following a TV rights dispute. Because of Duke's recently announced non-conference series with Amazon, they were forced to either find a new opponent or move the game. Both Dusty May and Jon Scheyer wanted to keep the matchup, so they moved the game to Miami, according to Norlander.
Why Miami? Marlins' owner Bruce Sherman is a Florida Atlantic basketball donor and friend of Dusty May's. Sherman has been trying to get May to play a game in his stadium for a few years now, and jumped at the opportunity to host the matchup with Duke. Sherman is essentially fulfilling every rich man's dream of hosting a high-profile sporting event at their house.
The last time two college basketball teams met in a Major League Baseball stadium was in 2022, when Wisconsin beat Stanford, 60-50. That game drew a crowd of over 17,000 fans, and yes, they ran the famous Sausage Race during a timeout.
