The portal may dominate the offseason, but it's the scheduling news that really gets people excited for next year. We had two elite matchups hit the wire yesterday.
According to a report from Jon Rothstein, Duke and UConn are set to meet the day before Thanksgiving for a neutral site matchup at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The two programs recently met in the Elite Eight, where UConn overcame a 19-point deficit and Braylon Mullins hit a last-second shot to advance to the Final Four. The game will have some added spice, as Nikolas Khamenia transferred from the Blue Devils to the Huskies this offseason.
Michigan State and Tennessee are set to begin a home-and-home series in Knoxville next season, Rick Barnes announced. It's the first regular season meeting between the two programs since the 2010 Elite Eight. They previously met in a charity exhibition in 2023 and a secret scrimmage in 2022. A return game is set for 2027 in East Lansing.
Iowa State head coach TJ Otzelberger signed a 10-year contract extension that will keep him in Ames through 2036, the school announced in a release. Otzelberger's pay will increase to $6 million annually, while his buyout remains at $4 million if he decides to leave for another school. The extension comes after Otzelberger's name was linked to several openings this offseason, including North Carolina.
Notable transfer portal commitments: Josh Holloway (Texas A&M) to Memphis | Fred Payne (Boston College) to Oregon | Corbin Allen (Kansas) to Appalachian State | Jerone Morton (Washington State) to Kentucky | Jalik Dunkley (Nicholls) to Robert Morris | Dovydas Butka (Campbell) to Boise State | EJ Walker (South Carolina) to Western Kentucky | Darius Adams (Maryland) to NC State | Kieran Mullen (Pittsburgh) to Florida Atlantic |
