It was a slow news day in college basketball, but there are some larger-picture items to cover on the gridiron.

A Louisiana judge granted a preliminary injunction in a case allowing more than 40 athletes to return to college football after practicing and playing with NFL teams this preseason.

While they're eligible to play from an NCAA standpoint, the SEC recently implemented severe punishments for teams that roster and play former pros. If LSU decides to place these players on its roster, they'll be subject to heavy fines, sanctions and suspensions.

Meanwhile, the SEC went on the offensive and filed a lawsuit against LSU, claiming the school "waged a deliberate and coordinated campaign to recruit professional athletes to play football for LSU during the 2026-27 season..."

The next few weeks of litigation will likely go a long way in determining the future of college sports as we know it.
