Luke Murray's UConn tenure ended on a Monday night in Indianapolis, in a national championship game against Michigan. His Boston College tenure started just a few hours later, and the first thing he saw was his inbox.
"We lose to Michigan on Monday," Murray told Basket Under Review. "And on Tuesday, I was in Boston, and the emails had already come flooding into the compliance office with all the guys going in the transfer portal. So it's like, OK, this is sort of the reality that you're faced with."
He had met with the BC players before leaving for the Final Four — all but one or two of them, anyway — and come away without much clarity. He got it fast. When the portal window closed, Murray had two players from last year's roster: Will Eggemeier, a walk-on the year before, and Jack Bailey, who had redshirted as a freshman.
Everybody else was gone.
"It was a little bit daunting, the idea of reconstructing the entire roster," Murray said. "But at the same time, that was really exciting for me."
