In our Champions Rewind series, we'll look at the seasons of past National Champions, breaking down both their offensive and defensive systems.
This week, we'll look at the 2013-2014 UConn Huskies, a team that no one expected to go on the run they did.
Just three years after the incredible Kemba run that led to a UConn title, things looked different heading into the 2013-14 season for the Huskies. For one, they were entering their first season in the American Athletic Conference after leaving the Big East. Head Coach Kevin Ollie was entering his second season as the team's leader. His first season was rocky as UConn was banned from postseason play due to poor academic progress.
UConn went 20-10 overall the prior season, which included 7 of their games going into overtime.
Heading into the 2013-14 season, though, UConn returned nearly everyone from the roster. Per CBB Reference, UConn returned 88.1% of its minutes and 92.4% of its scoring from the 2012-13 season.
