Welcome back, women's college basketball.
The women’s season tipped off in Rome with No. 13 Notre Dame beating Villanova, 99-75, at the Palazzo dello Sport. Hannah Hidalgo starred with 32 points, eight assists, seven rebounds, and three steals, and she had plenty of help. Sophomore Leah Macy posted 27 points and 14 rebounds in her Notre Dame debut, while Princeton transfer Madison St. Rose added 17.
Villanova got 26 points from Jasmine Bascoe and now has a long runway to build on last season’s 25-win, NCAA Tournament campaign. For Notre Dame, the win completed a sweep of the Eternal City Tip-Off after the men’s 74-72 victory earlier in the day.
