Trey Kaufman-Renn is back...for now?

The former Purdue center signed with Kansas on Monday.

Kaufman-Renn was granted a temporary restraining order in September and an injunction against the NCAA earlier this month. He redshirted during the 2021-2022 season and is arguing he wouldn't have made that decision under the new five-in-five rules.

Kaufman-Renn averaged 14.2 points and 8.3 rebounds for Purdue last season. He was drafted 59th overall in the NBA Draft this summer, but never signed a contract.

Kaufman-Renn, Melvin Council Jr. and Tre White are all eligible for now, giving Kansas three proven, quality starters just before the season begins. With all three in the fold, the Jayhawks are a legitimate national title contender. If all three are ruled ineligible, it drastically changes the outlook for Bill Self's squad.

The preseason AP and Coaches polls are here!

No surprises at the top: Florida and Duke are No. 1 and No. 2. The last preseason No. 1 team to win the national championship was the 2008-2009 North Carolina Tar Heels. Illinois received first-place votes in both polls.

The defending national champions slotted in at 16 & 20 after losing Dusty May to the NBA this offseason.

Kansas checks in at 17, though voting was completed before the official addition of Trey Kaufman-Renn.

Vanderbilt is ranked in the preseason poll for the first time since 2016.
