Julius Price admits it was difficult to leave his family and friends at 15 to come to America alone. But he dreamed of making a career in basketball and knew he had to make the hard decision to leave Sweden to put himself in the best position to get where he wanted to go.
California was familiar to Price because he took trips there as a kid to visit his dad Demetrius’ childhood hometown of Mountain View, where he lived before moving to Sweden as a young adult. But he looks back and recalls that his 15-year-old self underwent a significant social and basketball-related adjustment to pursue a basketball future.
He had to get used to becoming more outgoing to adjust to American culture. He had to find a way to channel his experience in the more tactical Swedish game and make an impact in faster-paced American games that demanded more athleticism than he’d been used to. He had to learn to live with an ocean between him and his family. But Price did it.
Now, he’s looking to make it all worth it, and he has a clear vision of what that would mean to him.
“My goal has always been the NBA, ever since I was a little kid,” Price told Basket Under Review. “The main reason why I came over here is because that’s my ultimate goal, to play in the NBA.”
