Arkansas transfer Malique Ewin is headed to Oregon. Ewin entered the portal in April during the original transfer window and is taking advantage of a recent injunction in Colorado granting eligibility to all class of 2022 athletes. The NCAA is currently appealing the decision, with a final ruling expected this week.
Vanderbilt transfers Jalen Washington and Mason Nicholson both found new homes. Washington committed to Tennessee and Nicholson committed to Georgia State. Washington was part of the lawsuit in Tennessee that granted athletes both the ability to enter the portal and a fifth year of eligibility. Washington's status is more likely to stick than other athletes because he was named a plaintiff in the case. Nicholson was granted a hardship waiver after playing in only five games last season.
On Capitol Hill, the Senate continues to work through the procedural steps needed to vote on the Protect College Sports Act. Lawmakers distributed an updated draft reflecting new changes that led to a public endorsement from the Big Ten and SEC.
NCAA President Charlie Baker sent a letter to Congress urging them to pass the bill. Even President Donald Trump weighed in on the subject, saying, "The NIL, or whatever it is, is very close to getting solved."
There is growing concern among coaches that this lack of clarity could drag on as we're less than 90 days away from opening night.
