The sophomore leap is one of college basketball's most reliable storylines. Every fall, a handful of players who flashed as freshmen become household names, and a few we expected to take that step never do.

Projecting who makes that jump has gotten more complicated. Thanks to the transfer portal, second-year players often break out somewhere new, and three of the five players below are doing exactly that.

Even so, underlying metrics provide valuable insight into which players are primed to take the leap. While some potential breakouts are already evident in last year's efficiency metrics, others rely heavily on expanded roles and continued growth.
