In the 2025 season, Hofstra ranked 326th in offense, per KenPom.
In 2026, Hofstra ranked 91st in offense, per KenPom.
This jump from 326 to 91 was the largest increase in Adjusted Offensive Ranking in KenPom last season, and it helped propel Hofstra to a 13 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
So how did head coach Speedy Claxton get the offense going, and should we expect it to repeat in the upcoming season?
Per KenPom's Raw Offensive Rating (unadjusted), Hofstra had an offensive rating of 98.6 in 2025 and 113.2 in 2026. Offensive rating is simply points scored per 100 possessions, meaning Hofstra scored 14.6 more points per 100 possessions in 2026 than in 2025. As expected, this led to a big jump in points per game, from 66.7 to 75.5 for the Pride. Of note, Hofstra played at a slightly faster pace overall in 2026. Still, this marginal increase in tempo doesn't seem to have affected the number of possessions, and therefore the number of scoring opportunities per game, by much.

If you want to improve your offense, you'll have to improve your numbers in the four factors. Hofstra improved in all four categories between 2025 and 2026.
Before diving deeper into the numbers and film, this gives a high-level snapshot of the differences between the two offensive outputs. Hofstra turned the ball over less and got to the free-throw line a bit more, but they took a big jump in offensive rebounding while also making a higher percentage of their shots.
Per CBB Analytics, Hofstra averaged 12.1 2nd-chance points per game in 2026, compared to 8.3 in 2025, a 3.8 points-per-game increase. As mentioned above, Hofstra increased their points per game by 8.8 points, and 3.8 of those could be attributed to 2nd-chance points.
