MARTIN, TN—Jeremy Shulman turns left out of his desk chair and takes the eraser to his UT-Martin whiteboard to erase a few now-irrelevant basketball-related items from the top of it. When the text is erased, Shulman quickly turns back towards his desk and returns to his chair without batting an eye at the text remaining between the models of UT Martin’s court on the board.
Sprawled out in black letters just below the area that Shulman just erased are nine words, three drawings, and three hearts that he has no plans of erasing anytime soon. They take up half of the whiteboard, but Shulman doesn’t mind.
Mila Shulman didn’t know it when she picked up her dad’s black Expo marker, but she’d just made his day and delivered the most meaningful piece of wall decor in his second-floor office space.
“I love you so much,” Mila wrote on the board. “The best dad ever.”
